Artist Statement
The lens allows me to show my view of beauty in rural architecture. Influenced by photographer Stephen Shore, this body of work uses film, rather than digital, to visualize the architecture around us into a world of shapes, textures, and contrast. The grain of film complements the old, worn down look of the buildings, while color enhances the buildings’ unique characteristics. I focus mainly on rural structures and the life in which the building lives in the environment. I capture specific details, such as vines growing along the buildings and shadows from powerlines, to provide an emphasis on beauty and character in rural architecture.
